That's what the Swiss Nati coach said about the EM Group A with Switzerland, Italy, Turkey and Wales.
With a poker face Vladimir Petkovic took the EURO draw in Bucharest. A little later, he let it be known that it was an "interesting but difficult group" in which Switzerland had landed. Nevertheless, the goal was clear: "We want and can get ahead," said the Nati coach.
So the 56-year-old looks at the other group opponents:
- Italy: «A team that showed all their qualities in qualifying. Coach Roberto Mancini has formed a very young, strong team and given her a good mentality. "
- Turkey: "A young team with a lot of character. They showed a good qualification. We must try to dominate the Turks. A good result can bring further positivity to our team. »
- Wales: "One of Pot 4's strongest teams. With players playing in good teams. Wales is a hungry team with a lot of temperament. But we have already shown that we can play well against teams from this region. »
3000 kilometers from Baku and back
While Petkovic is quite satisfied with the opponents, this does not necessarily apply to the venues. Between Baku and Rome lie more than 3000 kilometers and 3 time zones – Switzerland has to cope twice during the group stage.
"This trip is a small handicap," admitted the Nati coach, "but apart from Italy, the other two countries are like that."
Hope for more deployment time
In the next few days and weeks, the first step is to do a thorough analysis. "And then I hope my players will play even more in their teams and have more minutes in their legs in March (at the next Nati pull-together). Then we can plan the next steps. »
