The 1st FC Cologne sinks into chaos. On Friday night after the defeat against Hoffenheim dismissed the club manager Veh. But the leadership saw further need for action. On Saturday it also hit the coach.
B1. Lig KOln has separated from coach Achim Beierlorzer. The club said on Saturday, one day after the 1: 2 defeat against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Previously, the "KOlner Stadtanzeiger" and the "Bild" had reported on the separation.
According to the association, Andre Pawlak and Manfred Schmid will initially take over the care of the FC professionals. "We are now working to find a new head coach for the FC, who with our team will make a fresh start and a sporting turnaround," commented Frank Aehlig, sports director of FC. Beierlorzer said in the announcement of the club: "I regret that I could not lead the FC in these four months to the desired sporting success."
Beierlorzer had been committed only in the summer for 700,000 euros from second division Jahn Regensburg. For the high school teacher, who lost his civil service status this summer, it was the first chance as a coach in the Bundesliga. After initial euphoria about his person, however, the 51-year-old quickly came under fire.
Beierlorzer's record is one of horror
After a heavy opening program Cologne lost recently against Hertha BSC (0: 4), in Mainz (1: 3) and the first Premier League derby for 22 years at Fortuna Dusseldorf (0: 2). In addition, the FC retired in the second DFB Cup round by an embarrassing 2: 3 at the fourth division 1. FC Saarbrucken.
In his eleven Bundesliga games for FC Beierlorzer celebrated only two wins: a 2-1 in Freiburg and a 3-0 against bottom table Paderborn, but conceded eight defeats.
Previously, Armin Veh had to leave prematurely. The sports director, who had announced his exit from the contract in the summer of 2020 at the end of October, now stops with immediate effect. "In our current situation, in which the 1. FC KOln must make important decisions for the future, it is consistent in my view that we end the cooperation in the short term," Veh was in a statement of the club immediately after the game against Hoffenheim cited.
