The Union of Journalists of Cuba condemns the petty attitude of sectors of the Bolivian opposition that have attempted against the press freedom of the public media and journalists of the Bolivian Plurinational State of Bolivia, in order to silence the voices that denounce the coup of State in process that is carried out against the legitimate president of that nation, Evo Morales Ayma.
The public media Bolivia TV (BTV) and the radio station Red Patria Nueva (RPN) were violently occupied by organized opposition groups that, after threatening the communication professionals, forced them to leave their jobs.
Those who claim to defend democracy act with their backs to order and laws, in the style of dictatorships that once spilled so much blood in Latin America and the Caribbean and that with impunity censored and hid the truth.
Similarly, Upec repudiates the savage and cowardly attack on the radio of the Single Trade Union Confederation of Peasant Workers of Bolivia (Csutcb), where he was forcibly tied to a tree – as if he were a vulgar prisoner – Jose Aramayo, director of This means of community communication.
The ultra-right opposition seeks to silence the press to perpetrate the coup d'etat and thus ignore the decision of two million 889 thousand 359 voters who re-elected last October 20 to the indigenous president, Evo Morales, leader of the Movement to Socialism.
In the same way, we categorically reject the ongoing coup attempt, headed by sectors of the extreme right that do not have the majority support of the people.
Although the President summoned all political sectors to dialogue and peace, opposition leaders such as Luis Camacho and the defeated at the polls Carlos Mesa, rejected the call and insist on breaking the constitutional thread.
This situation is aggravated by the complicity of the United States government, the Organization of American States, and the media that operate as a spearhead for these attacks.
While in countries like Ecuador and Chile, the people stand up to claim their rights, and in Argentina, neoliberalism was defeated at the polls, the Bolivian people have chosen to continue with the conquests obtained from the hand of Evo Morales.
Bolivia is an example of economic growth and social inclusion for the entire continent. Evo is a genuine and combative leader of our Great Homeland, who has won every election with sufficient margin to NOT doubt his legitimacy.
Therefore, press professionals in Cuba sympathize with our colleagues who are being attacked at this time and demand the cessation of impunity and oppositional censorship.
Bolivian journalists are not alone!
