Cycling accidents are common in Strasbourg, and sometimes fatal. A 32-year-old cyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car
this Friday, November 8th. The accident took place on the intersection between the Darty Avenue Colmar and Hohwart tram stop.Three firefighters, called at 4:30 pm, were deployed with a Victim Assistance Vehicle (VSAV). According to preliminary information collected by the police, joined by France 3 Alsace, the cyclist was knocked down as he cycled across the pedestrian crossing
connecting the sidewalk side Darty to the tram station. A photograph shared by Traffic Info Bas-Rhin corroborates this information (see tweet below). The cyclist, unconscious, was transported in a state of absolute urgency to the hospital of Hautepierre, and the police would have been notified of his eventual death.
According to the police, the motorist is automatically at fault when a cyclist is involved. The latter is indeed considered a vulnerable user according to the Badinter law of 1985, even if the prudence would have wanted the cyclist dismount to cross. The police investigation must determine the wrongs and know exactly what happened.
