Musicology student Claudia Emmanuela Santoso is the new "Voice of Germany". The 19-year-old won the ninth season of the talent show on ProSieben and Sat.1 by a huge margin on Sunday night. She was supervised by singer and songwriter Alice Merton (26). This was the first time a women's duo won the music show. "It feels really good that a woman has finally won in nine years," Merton said.
Even before the final Santoso was acted by many as a clear favorite. In the more than three-hour live final from Berlin-Adlershof, she convinced the television viewers on each of her three appearances. No matter if she sang her song "Castles" together with the singer Freya Ridings, covered Whitney Houston's "I have Nothing" or performed the song "Goodbye" specially written for her by Coach Alice – the audience and the coaches were thrilled. Even Merton and Santoso were crying.

The student from Indonesia, who has been living in Munich for about one and a half years, ended up with 46.39 percent of the audience votes against Erwin Kintop (17.36 percent), Lucas Rieger (14.33 percent), Fidi Steinbeck (12.51 Percent) and Freschta Akbarzada (9.41 percent) – a clear lead. "I'm totally speechless now, I never expected to become a winner of The Voice of Germany," the young singer said shortly after her victory.
"I was so happy today that so many people have seen and felt the same things I felt back then – and today," said Coach Alice. When Santoso was on stage at the Blind Auditions of "The Voice of Germany", all the coaches turned around almost instantly. With her exceptionally strong, but also soulful voice, she convinced all jurors. After the semifinals, in which she sang Beyonce's ballad "Listen", rapper Sido said: "Claudia is the best singer in the world."
Immediately after the TV final, Santoso and the other finalists will be on a major tour of Germany from 6 December. Victory, fame and tour back and forth: On Tuesday, the 19-year-old has yet to take a literary exam at the university.
