Universe Freebox was able to test the Redmi Note 8 Pro, a mid-range smartphone whose price starts at 249.90 euros in France. It benefits from a gaming-oriented chipset, a 64 megapixel photo sensor and a big battery. Here are our impressions after several days of testing.
Before going to this test, here is a reminder of the main features of the Redmi Note 8 Pro that has been loaned by the brand and that we find at 249.90 in 6 + 64 GB configuration and 279.90 euros in configuration 6 + 128 GB:

A design that catches the eye, but dust and scratches
We received the Redmi Note 8 Pro in its Boreal Green finish that flatters the retina. Except when the dust comes back on the back. This has even been problematic for our illustration photos. Not to mention the first scratches, while the smartphone was equipped with its protective shell right out of the box and we took care. Pity.
In terms of handling, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is really nice with its rounded lines.
The only thing that could be blamed is the fingerprint reader installed in the alignment of the photo block that is not easy to find the first time, because of its positioning and its small size. An aspect that is forgotten when using easy recognition, as it is fast and efficient.
A beautiful screen and a correct sound
Let's talk about the screen now. If you do not take advantage of an AMOLED, the color rendering is rather pleasant. The slab also offers a good enough brightness for outdoor use. The display heat can be adjusted from the parameters.
As for the water drop notch, honestly, it did not catch our attention during the test. Whether in the interface or in game. We can however hide it through the parameters.
Side sound is clear and powerful, but it lacks a bit of relief. No stereo either since the sound comes out only from a speaker in the lower slot. In short, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is not zealous.
Some will also note the presence of a 3.5 mm audio jack and headphones of fairly good bill.
Detailed photos and a night mode that does a good job (without miracle)
On the other hand, the Redmi Note 8 Pro bombs the torso when it comes to photos with no less than four back-end sensors, including one of 64 megapixels.
What about the use? Overall photos are very detailed, especially with the 64 megapixel mode. The latter allows you to zoom in on cliches. The night mode can also correct some flaws like halos of light and give a little brightness. Effective, it does not too much to the point of giving an artificial side to the cliches.

Note that it will be possible to remove the marker sometimes visible on our photos, by going into the settings of the Photo application. Tap the three-dot horizontal icon, then go to "Settings / Watermark".
4G not extraordinary bit rates
We conducted our 4G bit rate tests on the Free Mobile network. The Redmi Note 8 Pro has not often exceeded 100 Mbit / s in reception (download).
Below, examples of flow rates obtained outdoors:

Finally note that the smartphone is compatible with the 4G 700 MHz (B28) on which much bet Free Mobile.
A good companion for mobile gaming
With a Helio G90T chipset designed for gaming and a 6GB RAM, the smartphone Redmi Note 8 Pro quietly turns the big games. Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty Mobile are formalities.
There is also a game mode to optimize performance and avoid disturbances during your gaming sessions.
Without sparking, the storage memory in UFS 2.1 provides the correct data rates, which makes the installations quite fast. Disk Speed indicated 219 MB / s write and 369 MB / s read.
A big battery and a refill that does not drag too much
The Redmi Note are known for their good autonomy. This Redmi Note 8 Pro honors its predecessors by allowing to consider the two days of autonomy without depriving itself.

A complete interface with practical functions
The Redmi Note 8 Pro works with the Android 9.0 system with the MIUI interface.
It incorporates some practical functions like the night mode to not disturb the room neighbor, the reading mode to make reading more comfortable, the second space to protect his data or the one-handed mode that allows to have a 3.5, 4 or 4.5 inch display.
There are some pre-installed applications in commercial partnerships like Opera, Facebook, WPS Office, Netflix, AliExpress, Pop Shooter Blast or Dust Settle. We can uninstall them.
Let's finish on the security side. An update allowed us to make patches from August to those of September.
At 250 euros, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is a very nice proposal. It offers a beautiful screen, a clear and powerful sound (but lacking relief), good performance at play, a certain versatility in photo, comfortable autonomy, a fairly fast charge and a fairly complete software interface. There are also these headphones of good quality. Interesting point for Free Mobile subscribers: it supports 4G 700 MHz.
