MOnchengladbach Borussia has signed the 16-year-old Joseph "Joe" Scally. The right-back will only come in January 2021 when he is of age.
Borussia builds early on the future. The Bundesliga championship leader has signed 16-year-old American Joseph "Joe" Scally of New York FC (NYFC). The shared the Gladbacher on Wednesday. Scally, however, will come to Gladbach only in January 2021. Then he is of age. He will be 18. on December 31, 2020. By then he will play for NYFC.
"Joe Scally is a top American talent we've known for a long time. We see great potential in Joe and look forward to joining him in January 2021. Until then, together with New York City FC, we will prepare him for the move to Germany, "said Borussia sporting director Max Eberl. In the coming season, Scally is still playing in Major League Soccer (MLS) for New York FC.
At 13, the right-back came to the junior school of the NYFC, with 15 celebrated Scally in the 2017/18 season his professional debut in the US Open Cup in a 0-4 against the New York Red Bulls. He is the second youngest debutant of the US league Freddy Adu. Scally has not played in the MLS yet.
"It is very exciting for Joe to move to Borussia MOnchengladbach and have the opportunity to play in one of the best leagues in the world," said NYCFC sports director Claudio Reyna, who played for Bayer Leverkusen and VfL in the Bundesliga between 1995 and 1999 Wolfsburg played. "He is only 16 years old and still has a lot of development potential."
Scally is looking forward to the engagement in Germany. "When I learned of the interest of Borussia MOnchengladbach, I was very excited. Scally is after Kasey Keller, Michael Bradley and Fabian Johnson, the fourth US professional, which has Gladbach under contract.
