If the German national team against Belarus and Northern Ireland collect their last points for the European Championship qualification, the players of coach Joachim Loew are also a bit of mannequins for the DFB-supplier.
The German national team is back on promotional tour. On Saturday in MOnchengladbach (against Belarus) and on Tuesday in a week in Frankfurt (against Northern Ireland), the DFB squad wants to finish the European Championship qualification for 2020 and not only make up points for the qualification group C's final table.
In the two home games, it's about the good reputation: that the Germans love their national team again. In time presented to the DFB the new jersey. A completely white vest Germany has no more.
The DFB and Adidas miss a chance
If the DFB, and thus its premium partner Adidas ever since the 2018 World Cup embarrassment intending to repair the damaged image of the population, then this partnership has now missed their best chance.
In Germany jerseys: everything is so outrageously expensive, as it always was. 89.95 euros for the fan version, even 129.95 euros for the professional version. The children's sizes beat with 64.95 euros to book, in addition comes the matching pants between 32.95 and 49.95 euros.
A family man, who wants to equip his two kids for the European Championship summer, is thus with about 200 euros here. But then dad does not have his own jersey.
Understandably, the pricing policy is not. Unlike the Bundesliga clubs, the DFB does not have to finance a professional squad with the jersey proceeds. If the association states that the sale of shirts not only maintains its own administrative apparatus, but also benefits football as a levy, then this detour would not have been necessary.
The football at the base helps nothing better than a commitment that the DFB top know the constraints in the household budgets of families and fans.
EM jersey: No sign of closeness to the fan
The continued high price level for jerseys shows only: The promised return to Fannahe stops where the treasurer has the last word.
With the profit margin, which is possible with jerseys, Adidas would have made a good cut also with a more favorable price. But Fannahe alone is rarely a matter of the heart of a listed company.
Thus, the new DFB jersey serves the mostly unjustified charge of commercialization. One could argue now for a long time whether the black horizontal stripes are chic or children's department, whether the black-red-gold is playful on the sleeve or crawler-table. But that does not help. This is ultimately a matter of taste. Fashion is always a time phenomenon.
And maybe you just have to wait a bit. The old DFB jersey's now available from 16.45 euros on Amazon.
