Sevilla FC The technician lives a sweet moment in Seville and does not want to look back
JUlen Lopetegui (Asteasu, 1966) lives a sweet moment. On his landing in Seville everything is going to be asked for by mouth. He has already qualified the team as the first group in the Europa League in the absence of two days, is fourth in LaLiga and has gone to the league after winning the derby at Villamarn.
Question. We found him at the best moment since he arrived in Seville?
Reply. Whenever you win a match like this and having 15 days ahead, you leave with good feelings, and for the city it is great, but we are already lowering the foam. You have to forget the derby.
Q. Beyond the results, how are you especially happy?
R. With which we have competed well in all matches. In some we could have obtained more points, but we have always given the face, we have been present and with possibilities to win. But always with the conviction that we have much to improve, especially with so many new players.
We have played well in many ways and giving answers, being protagonists, being solid …. and with good reactions in difficult times. That's why I keep the match against Real Sociedad. We have just lost with Eibar, the Real came forward in the first action. We had a good reaction and it was a test for the team. This is what I want: to have many answers and a good mentality.
Q. What worried you most was what the goals resist?
R. Is that happens to all teams, it is the most difficult. Although we generated many occasions, and that means that there is a lot of work behind. The obligation of the goal is not only of the strikers. The many have to come from the collective. We have not been worried with that.
Q. De Jong needed the goal that scored Betis?
R. Luuk had already scored an important goal that gave us the three points against Levante. It has worked very well, just like Chicharito. De Jong does the team a lot of good.
Q. What has been the variant with which you have found most comfortable or which has come out best?
A. I have the feeling that we can have different resources, play with two points, one end and one end … But in the end the drawing is not so important. Things happen and it is a constant decision making, but we have played with several systems, always with the starting point of being a recognizable team and being protagonists.
Q. Do you and your staff go hand in hand with the Sports Department?
A. Of course, we are all part of a project, Monchi has chosen us and there is a permanent connection, every day. And so it should be.
Q. What are the basic differences between being a coach of Sevilla and Real Madrid?
A. When preparing training, strategy plays, analyzing rivals, that your team understand why and what things are done in decision-making … there is none, but at national level they represent other things . But be aware that Sevilla has a lot of repercussions in the local area and for years it has been for the whole country.
Q. So far in the League there is a lot of equality. Do you think it is a mirage that will end up normalizing as usual or that we are really facing a more competitive championship?
A. I see a league matched because any team wins any team, because everyone has good squads, great sports addresses, who have been working for years and we have very good coaches. But there are three templates that stand out above the others, those of Real Madrid, Bara and Atleti, and that in the long term ends up giving them an advantage over the rest.
Q. Do you like VAR?
A. It is a very interesting tool to help make decisions in flagrant situations. But in interpretations the discussion arises, specifying where and even where it intervenes. When in doubt, the decision of the referee must prevail. At first, the VAR came only for errors of much bulk and without discussion, those of white or black. But when there is an interpretation, the referee's decision must be irreplaceable.
The entries behind were initially red, but then there have been many more serious ones that have not been sanctioned. The VAR is good and little by little we will improve it. It serves to give a definitive opinion.
Q. Does soccer lose with VAR?
A. I put my heart to a thousand with VAR plays. The player does not lose any picaresque, because it is not about cheating but anticipating. Picarda is ready and football is ready.
Q. Is it now when you are most letting him enjoy his profession?
A. I have enjoyed a lot at all times, at least I try but I don't always get it … Now I'm happy and my family too. I am in a club with a huge structure, it is big, but tremendously gil, with the permanent help of Monchi, and we are very excited. An everything remains to be done.
Q. He names me factors that are taking place positively in Seville. What did not happen at Real Madrid?
A. I do not want to value that, because there is no reason to compare. What happened, happened. There is not always a positive memory, but in all experiences you grow and take note. After all, in football what you have done does not guarantee you anything. Just tell what you are going to do. Tennis journalists have to talk about other things, but we focus on match by match. In the end all experiences can be good.
Q. Did you fail the luck factor?
A. I am lazy to analyze what happened, they are normal situations, one is exposed to that in the world of football with such haste and demand. It may happen that two or three bad results lead you ahead, but you have to take it naturally.
Q. How has time been right?
A. I don't think about being right, nor about life. I am open and let me advise to continue improving. What gives you the reason is to win but for that you have to do a lot, especially from conviction.
Q. Will you act the same now that you know what happened?
A. Neither me nor anyone, to back down is to cheat. Things are done in the moment with the best intention.
Q. Did he go very hard on you? How was the dismissal taken? He may fear that it will cost him too much to retrain in Spain.
A. I don't think it was hard on me, you are aware of what you have done and it is not healthy to be aware of what is said. I didn't think it would cost me more to return to work in Spain, I could have offers. I dedicated myself to live and prepare myself, like all coaches. Energy does not lose it.
Q. What is most important in your work?
A. We must lead in many things: manage many issues, manage daily variables from when you enter the door and even when you are at home … You have to lead different processes, such as knowing how to set a course in complex times, and alert in the favorable Egos we all have and we have to control ourselves, including one's own.
Q. Does the white wardrobe change a lot compared to the sevillista?
A. There is also maximum impact here and after all, football players are players everywhere. That makes it easier for you because they don't change. They are young people, with fears, concerns … nothing changes. The daily management for me is the same.
Q. What do you think has improved in this time and what should it still affect?
A. I can improve on everything, I keep tomorrow's motivation being better than today. I have improved because the passage of time gives you more perspective on things.
Q. What do you think of this Spanish selection?
A. I see her very well, the choice of Luis Enrique was fantastic. I hope that he and his family will get ahead. If they made Robert's decision it is because they trust him fully and he is doing well. From the outside it looks good. I see good players, with a clear direction, with a defined soccer intent and many positive points.
Q. What do you think of taking the Super Cup to Saudi Arabia?
A. I have no opinion because I do not have enough information about it, but they have decided to be because it is good for everything.
Q. Do you feel fully?
A. I have had good moments in my career and in my personal life, I am calm but always alert.
