eOne week after the confusion over a telephone call with Bayern boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Arsene Wenger has found a new job. The 70-year-old Frenchman, who was also briefly acted as the new coach of the German football championship, hires the World Federation Fifa as "Director for global football promotion".
"I am very much looking forward to this very important task, because I like to analyze football from a superordinate standpoint and firmly believe that FIFA (…) really has a global mission," said Wenger, latterly a TV expert had been in use. FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the Alsatian as one of the "most prestigious personalities in football".
Rummenigge and Wenger had phoned in the previous week. It is confirmed that this was a commitment in Munich – but then spread both versions, who asked whom and who canceled whom. "I have no interest in having stress with him", Rummenigge had declared at the weekend after Bayern's 4-0 victory against Borussia Dortmund and announced another conversation. "Maybe we misunderstood somehow.".
Wenger had previously stressed that he had not offered himself in Munich, but he had been called by Rummenigge, said the Frenchman to the TV channel beIN Sports. "He asked me if I was interested in looking for a coach," said Wenger, who had marked an era at Arsenal FC in London.
The Bayern had reported against it via "Bild" newspaper, Wenger had called Rummenigge and inquired about the coach job. The Alsatian was "not an option" in the search for a successor to Niko Kovac.
