Comic strip is the honor in the city of Calvin. The Geneva Library on Saturday unveiled to the public the first history in prints of Rodolphe TOpffer (1799-1846), the child of the country considered the inventor of the ninth art.

Facetious works

This history in prints was taken out of the precious reserves of the institution for this exceptional presentation. It was accompanied by editions and original manuscripts. The Geneva Library keeps all the published editions during Rodolphe TOpffer's lifetime.

The stories in prints were made by Mr. Vieux-Bois, Mr. Jabot, or Mr. Crepin. These facetious works were admired far beyond the borders of Geneva. The production of the author oscillates permanently between serious and light, with this satirical tip which is his trademark.

Round table with Zep

Guided tours of the exhibition "Comics, a Genevan invention?" Also allowed the public to form their own opinion on the subject. Visitors were able to create their fanzine with the help of three students from the School of Comics and Illustration (ESBDI).

Events around the comics will continue until January 18. A round table will look in particular November 28 on the origins of the ninth art. The creator of the character of Titeuf, Zep – Philippe Chappuis – will be part of the game. (Ps / nxp)
