Munich (AP) – The basketball players of Bayern Munich have conceded in the Euroleague a significant home defeat. The German champions lost against the Greek top club Panathinaikos Athens with 75:87 (35:36). The Munich lose the connection to the playoff places with the defeat.
Three days after the 85:82 victory against Olympiacos Piraeus, the team of Dejan Radonjić first presented wide awake. Greg Monroe alone scored eleven of his 15 points in the first quarter (24:16). The Greeks then increased the pressure in the defense and went just before the half by three converted free throws by Jimmer Fredette with 36:35 lead.
Supported by vociferous guest fans, Panathinaikos went into a frenzy in the third quarter and pulled away (60:41). The Bayern could oppose that only a little. "We did not find any solutions when the guests were running," said international player Paul Zipser at MagentaSport. Zipser scored a new personal career record with 23 points.
In the Euroleague, Bayern will have to travel to league leaders Anadolu Efes Istanbul next week. Previously, the Munich are required twice in the Bundesliga.
