The second part of the recording of the epic war film starts this week. The first part of the recording took place in Lithuania where the Zeeland Sloedam was reconstructed. For the second turning block, cast and crew will settle in Zeeland and Belgium, where grand scenes are shot with hundreds of extras.
Earlier it was announced that Gijs Blom, Susan Radder and Jamie Flatters play the lead roles in the film. The story follows three young people during the Battle of the Scheldt that took place in Zeeland in October 1944. The city of Antwerp was liberated, but the area of the Scheldt estuary was not yet. In the bloody battle the roads of a Dutch boy fighting for the Germans (Gijs Blom), an English glider pilot (Jamie Flatters) and a Zeeland resistance girl (Susan Radder) cross each other.
The direction is in the hands of Matthijs van Heijningen jr. The budget is 14 million euros. This makes it the most expensive Dutch-language film production ever after Zwartboek. The war drama is made on the initiative of the vfonds, the National Fund for Peace, Freedom and Veteran Care in the context of 75 years of freedom and will be released in Dutch cinemas on 26 November 2020. The film will be shown on Netflix in the rest of the world. It is the first time that Netflix is co-producing a Dutch film.
